Come Tuesday, October 7, Texas will celebrate National Night Out, enhancing the relationship between neighbors and our law enforcement while bringing back to our neighborhood a true sense of community. Tanglewilde and Westmont are poised to celebrate the big occasion once again. Please join us for food, family and fun!

Update on our signage
Many thanks to Homer and Shelly Carvajal for their superb job cleaning our signage at the entrance on Tanglewilde. Both Saturday and Sunday in the heat, they cut branches and cable, raked and bagged garbage, power washed our signage and prepped the soil for flowers. We cannot thank them enough for their community service.
Vehicle break-ins
We’ve experienced a rash of Vehicle break-ins on Meadowbriar week before last. While no vehicles were stolen, several were looted. Coincidentally, Board Member Bruce Wilkerson and I attended the PIP meeting at the Midwest Police Station the week before. The keynote speaker Sgt. Tracy Hicks, HPD Auto Theft Division, gave us tips to help protect our vehicles. Auto Theft/Break Ins occur throughout the Greater Houston area, so we in Tanglewilde are not alone.
Tips for residents who leave their vehicles in the driveway
- Don’t leave any items in your vehicles.
- Don’t leave a gun in your vehicles.
- Purchase a Steering Wheel Lock, a Club, for Heavy Duty anti-theft protection.
- Purchase Anti-Theft License Plate Screws. As of October 2025, paper plates will no longer be legal. Thieves will be stealing license plates.
- Purchase an OBD Protector, a port lock cap so thieves can’t access your Electronic Control Unit (ECU). With an unprotected OBD, the thieves have a special device to connect to your OBD which allows them to steal your vehicle in minutes, literally start your engine and drive off.
- Report a car breakin or stolen vehicle to the Police. In order to catch these thieves, they need updated information – who, what, when and where. Many of us have neighbors with ring doorbells that can help provide information.
- For as little as $50.00, your vehicle can be protected.
Jugging
Texas enacted a new law, House Bill 1902, making jugging a felony. Jugging is the act of following someone from a bank or ATM to steal their money. Don’t think for one moment that thieves are not watching. They are. ATM machines are the worst. The law signed in June 2025 provides harsher penalties, ranging from a state jail felony to a first degree felony, depending on the severity, such as vehicle break-ins or robbery.
Be safe; Be cautious. Don’t be a victim.
