I am pleased to announce that we’ve grown our membership tenfold in the last year. And we’re not done! What an awesome 2026 Membership Campaign, and thanks to homeowners David and Jacqueline Nguyen who allowed us the use of their fence on Tanglewilde Avenue to showcase our banner. Indeed, our banner was a great success in broadcasting theTanglewilde Civic Club, along with appealing to the community to support our endeavor.
Thanks to everyone who stepped up to help build our civic club — whether becoming a new member, renewing your membership, knocking on doors, spreading the word to neighbors, signing up new members, talking up our Emergency Texting Program, opening the door to a new opportunity. It is evident that residents want community, and community we shall have.
Your funds are going toward building resources, emergency texting and community events, such as our July 4th 250 Anniversary parade and social. But, more importantly, your membership says you want to be a part of this community.

July 4th is upon us.
Every year we gear up to commemorate our big National July 4th holiday with hot dogs, parades and festive celebrations.
This year, let us not forget our Founding Fathers – American revolutionaries who signed the United States Declaration of Independence knowing they were committing treason against Great Britian as they were British subjects, with treason punishable by death. All 56 delegates pledged “their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor for the cause of freedom, liberty and independence.” For much we owe to these brave men.
As Americans we carry their torch forward for our families, friends and all those who will follow us. Let us make America’s 250th birthday a special day.
Join us July 4th for our annual parade at 10 am, followed by our social to include Pappas Barbeque, ice cream, refreshments and lots of merriment. Awards will be given to the best July 4th costume for adults, kids, cars and doggies!
Bring a chair. Tents will be accessible.

FIFA and Hurricane Season
Westchase District “2026 Public Safety Alliance” luncheon was held May 21 featuring COH Office of Emergency Management Coordinator/Executive Director Brian Mason, who discussed the City of Houston info on FIFA and Hurricane Season preparedness.
According to Mason, the city projects some 500,000 to 1.5 million guests for FIFA from June 11 through July 19, with anticipation that housing in hotels should be mostly contained in the Galleria and downtown Houston. It is expected that soccer parties will pop up across the Greater Houston Area.
Mason reported on Hurricane season running June 1 through November 30, stressing the need for Hurricane Kits and noting the importance of being connected to neighbors, family,and friends. He also noted that Kinder Institute for Urban Research reports that only about one-third or 800,000 of Houstonians are prepared for hurricanes, leaving approximately 1.6 million without necessities to weather the storm. He noted food, water, medications, gasoline in your vehicle and cash as paramount.

Three of our neighbors literally “took care of business” in the last month like true warriors for the betterment of our community.
Thanks to Pam Morris for jumping hoops to have the graffiti removed from the old Wildwest Pool fence which was an eye sore for Tanglewilde neighbors on Rockyridge.
Assad Neamah took matters into his own hands by calling the Houston Police on a Sunday morning to remove a homeless person sleeping on a sofa located behind his home and the LA Fitness dumpster. He also removed the graffiti on the back of his garage.
Jack LaVigne took to cutting down fallen trees on the sidewalk at Tanglewilde and Highmeadow.

Speaking of Graffiti
In Houston, gang-related graffiti can be reported to the city at 311 or by visiting the 311 Help and Information website.
The city provides free graffiti abatement services, including painting over or washing off tags, with a focus on quick removal – ideally within 24-48 hours to prevent further gang activity.
Houston Police Addressing Transients
I have noted far fewer transients on Westheimer Road, especially around the Tanglewilde Center and LA Fitness Center.
Midwest HPD organized a Targeted Task Force to address issues, including homelessness, encampments, panhandling, and observed criminal activity. They are also coordinating with Narcotics and vice units in response to prior concerns. As part of this effort:
- Businesses will be contacted to establish or renew their Trespass Affidavits.
- Patrol shifts have been adjusted to ensure coverage during daytime, evening and overnight hours.
- A focused deployment is underway with continued monitoring and evaluation of the need for additional resources.

Where are the Street Numbers on Your Home?
While walking our community, I noted many homes have no address numbers affixed to the front of the property. Many homes have only painted curb numbers.
The City of Houston governs property numbering and street names under Chapter 41 of the Code of Ordinances. Official addressing guidelines and mandate are detailed in the City of Houston Addressing and Street Guidebook. The city has specific requirements for how and where house numbers must be displayed to ensure emergency first responders and service providers can locate your home instantly.
- Visibility & Placement: Numbers must be plainly visible from the street or driveway and affixed to the structure within 18” of the prime entrance, unless otherwise approved by the Fire Marshall.
- Size & Contrast: Numbers must be a minimum of four (4) inches in height, using a font and color that creates a high contrast with the mounting surface.
Curb Numbers are secondary but offer visibility for emergencies especially for homes poorly lit. Federico Mendez conducts Creative Curb Numbers Painting. He can be reached at 832-661-3716.
I am saddened to report that long-time resident Red Garcia passed away Aprill 26, 2026 after a very difficult illness. Red leaves behind his loving wife Charlotte, their sons and families.
A successful restauranteur, former owner of Fajita Flats and once upon a time bartender at Los Tios Restaurant back in 1975-1976, Red was a strapping man, with a full bush of red hair, a hearty smile and a robust personality larger than life. He never met a stranger.
A longtime resident of Tanglewilde who by happenstance found his home on Beverly Hill while driving through the hood in 2005, he will be remembered as a loving business and family man who was active in the Tanglewilde community. His generosity extended to family, friends and strangers, donating his time, food and donations to our former Wildewest Pool fundraisers and party events.
Red loved Tanglewilde neighbors so much so that after Hurricane IKE, Rita and Harvey, he would drive around as soon as the water receded to check on everyone. Red had a kind heart.
RIP Red Garcia.
The Million Dollar Question
Is it possible that a house sold for $800,000 in Tanglewilde?
Yes, ma’am! 9507Meadowglen Lane, our newest house built in 2013, sold for a whopping $815,000, and Larry Mercer of ReMax Signature took his commission straight to the bank. Congrats Mr. Mercer on a job well done.
This is exciting news for our quaint little patch of homes in the big City of Houston. Perhaps more new homes will be built replacing some of the older homes that need a lot of work to update. We offer a quiet, quaint neighborhood located to every amenity possible – shopping, restaurants, and gym within walking distance, along with accessible freeways/beltways, Galleria, Memorial, City Centre and much more.
I’m sold!
In a perfect world, every kitten would be born with a wonderful and safe home; unfortunately, this isn’t the case for most kittens. They become feral cats. The best approach is Trap-Neuter-Return.
In Tanglewilde, we have many kittens born and unwanted. Many are left to fend for themselves. Some cat lovers hope to adopt them out or welcome them into their home as pets. Many other good Samaritans in Tanglewilde strive to capture the mom and dad, have them desexed, and return them to this environment. This is the perfect scenario as it stops the population growth.
Although there are many organizations to spay and neuter, CAPS offers a voucher program with participating clinics to spay and neuter feral cats. The number of vouchers is limited to a certain number per month at the participating clinics. The individual capturing stray cats can choose which clinic when they visit CAPS to pick up the trap(s). Or, if they already have a trap, the vouchers can be emailed. It is important to know that appointments must be made in advance; the animal(s) must be dropped off promptly at 8 a.m. and retrieved the same evening. The information will be more specific when one receives the vouchers.
The main contact at CAPS is Darva. Her number is 281-600-8503. Darva can be reached Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Another option is the Texas Litter Control Clinic, located at 1001 Dairy Ashford Road and Westheimer. They will spay and neuter cats for $78.00 per animal. Appointments for the surgery are made online at Texaslittercontrol.org. The phone number is 281-528-1238; however, the majority of their business is conducted online. Their hours are Monday through Saturday, accept animals between 7 and 8 a.m. and pick up is between 5 and 6 p.m.
We have residents in the hood who may be able to assist in capturing the cats. If you are in need, please hit return and let me know.

Eyes Wide Open
It is estimated that Houston has about 8,815 active Airbnb’s operating as short-term rentals at any given time of which 5,192 are registered with the City of Houston.
In Tanglewilde, we have approximately 18 Airbnb’s out of 680 homes (that we know of) which equates to 2.6 percent of our homes for short term rentals. Yes, a tiny fraction, but nevertheless, they are operating a business within our community. I can’t stress the importance of monitoring these homes. As I have addressed in the previous newsletter, the city has cracked down on these rentals with specific rules and regulations. To our knowledge, all our Airbnb’s are registered with the city, except for one.
Recently we had a huge party at a rental that caused quite the chaos. Houston Police were called to remove the partygoers. Considering the volume of partygoers, the police did an excellent job moving them out.
A report was filed to the city, and to our City Council Woman Tiffany Thomas, District F, and anyone else that would listen. Our eyes are wide open to any nuisance renters, short-term or otherwise.

Some Trivia . . .
Did you know that the Tanglewilde July 4th parade started in the 1980’s when neighbors Lou Gorski and Susan Pepper, along with their six children, sat on the corner of Fairdale and Tanglewilde holding a US flag. Other neighbors joined in, and they proceeded to parade down Tanglewilde to Westheimer thus creating the July 4th tradition. The rest is history.
